Food symposium has Native focus

The second annual Kalamazoo Foodways Symposium, set for April 6-7, will focus on Native American culture and cooking.

The symposium will examine food history, culture and systems through lectures, demonstrations and food tastings. It will kick off at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum from 5-7 p.m. April 6 during Art Hop, when FireKeepers Casino and Hotel Head Chef James Thomson will provide tastings.

The symposium’s second day will be held on the Bronson Healthy Living Campus of Kalamazoo Valley Community College, in downtown Kalamazoo. It will feature cooking demonstrations, speakers, workshops and classes, and food tastings from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at KVCC’s Culinary/Allied Health Building, at 418 Walnut St.
