Catch reading by poetry contest winners

Four Michigan poets, including Encore’s

The winners of the annual Celery City Chapbook Contest, sponsored by the local group Friends of Poetry, will read their poetry at 7 p.m. March 13 in the library’s Van Deusen Room. There will also be cash sales of their books that night.

The local winners are Margaret DeRitter for Fly Me to Heaven By Way of New Jersey and Scott Bade for My Favorite Thing About Desire. DeRitter is the poetry editor and copy editor of Encore and a former Kalamazoo Gazette journalist. Bade is coordinator of Western’s University Center for the Humanities and has taught creative writing at Kalamazoo College and the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.

The state winners are Sophia Rivkin, of Detroit, for River of Snow and Janice Zerfas, of Eau Claire, for Head Shot.
