Hit the court for kids

Grab your racquet and lace up your tennis shoes to support programs that treat and prevent child abuse in Southwest Michigan.

The Bill Wright Memorial Serve for Kids Tennis Classic, scheduled for Oct. 14 at West Hills Athletic Club, 2001 S. 11th St., supports the Wright for Kids Fund at the Community Healing Centers. The event and fund are named for the late local businessman and philanthropist Bill Wright, who was co-owner of the Seelye-Wright Auto Group and president of the former Kalamazoo Kings baseball team.

The event involves more than just a tennis tournament. Tennis will be played from 2-5 p.m., and there will be a reception at 4 p.m. and a buffet dinner at 5 p.m. A tennis mixer and live and silent auctions will also be held.

The cost to attend the event is $75 for tennis and dinner. Participants may also choose a tennis-only option for $50 or a dinner-only option for $50.
