With a theme of #StayWokeKzoo, the Kalamazoo Summit on Racism this month will look at the rise of hate in America.

Lecia Brooks, outreach director for the Southern Poverty Law Center, will be the summit’s keynote speaker. Brooks, who is also the director of the Civil Rights Memorial Center in Montgomery, Ala., will discuss the SPLC’s work and the hate groups in Michigan.

This annual summit, presented by the Racial Healing Initiative of the Society for History and Racial Equity (SHARE), seeks to bring the community together for an open dialogue on race and eradicating racism.

The summit runs from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Borgess Lawrence Education Center, 1521 Gull Road, and registration is $35. For more information or to register, go to sharekazoo.org.
